Language Intelligence presented and exhibited at tekom's tcworld conference 2009.

Technical Authoring Using XML Features in InDesign

Andrew Pulcino, Language Intelligence's Director of Technical Operations, presented a workshop titled "Technical Authoring Using XML Features in InDesign".

This workshop provided attendees with a working knowledge of the XML features in In-Design and how these features can benefit their document management. A demonstration of InDesign‘s basic XML features was followed by information on: how to get around limitations of the features; XML rules in the InDesign scripting and how to manipulate them to generate any layout automatically; how to tie these features into an XML publishing workflow with InDesign as the target output; and references to useful links and publications so attendees can benefit from these efficiencies firsthand.

Internationalizing your content: Authoring with Localization in Mind

Lisa Pietrangeli, Language Intelligence's Director of Language Services, gave two presentations. The first, titled "Internationalizing your content: Authoring with Localization in Mind", was presented on Wednesday, November 4th.

Localization is the process of adapting a product or service to a particular language and culture. Internationalization, then, is the process of planning, designing and implementing a culturally and technically neutral product, which can easily be localized. Internationalization helps decrease translation cost and speeds up time-to-market by addressing crucial technical, aesthetic, cultural, and linguistic issues at project start-up. In this presentation, Lisa explained how writing with localization in mind saves time and money while improving overall quality.

When Products Talk: A Translation/Localization Case Study

Lisa's second presentation, titled "When Products Talk: A Translation/Localization Case Study", was presented on November 4th.

From 2004–2009, Language Intelligence successfully partnered with their client who was developing an innovative multi-lingual product: a home security system that speaks 31 languages and is supported by a complete documentation set in each language. By examining the challenges and successes that LI and their client faced during the three development phases of this product, our case study will provide a Lessons Learned and Best Practices discussion covering translation technology, file migration (from MS Word to Structured FrameMaker), involving project stakeholders during localization and more.
